Absence

Inspired by explorations of the abandoned Tat Tak school in Hong Kong, existing during the time of turmoil of the 1967 riots.

Study

This was an independent experiment on Maya tools to optimizing render times and production with instances dynamics, and simple nodes . The textures are mostly procedural using Maya nodes and substance Painter.

By utilizing the power of Maya's MASH instancing and MASH dynamics in a larger scale scene, the need for calculations of multiple geometry wasn't needed. Objects in the scene (lights, desks, chairs, paper, pebbles, dirt) were also quickly laid out randomly without the need of hand placing anything.

Each of the desk textures were created very quickly using nodes like the aiSwitch node, and aicolorjitter that created procedural ranimization for combinations of textures and grunges with different surfaces.

And .ass Arnold Standins were used to import the moving tree geometry for the background.

Fabrics, caution tape, and Hong Kong British Colonial flag was created with Ncloth.

Work in Progress 360 Render

Though I have a camera set up already, I decided to experiment with 360 renders and may decide to do a stereoscopic VR render.

There was strange stretching in the backwall, and my normal maps were too large an intense, so I quickly updated after this render test.
